about

This chant was inspired by the final verses of the Gospel of the Beloved Companion, the text found in southern France attributed to Mary Magdalene. As told in the gospel, while on the imaginal plane, Yeshua guides Miriam in her soul’s ascent up the tree of life. After eating the fruit of the 8th bough, she rests in the arms of the Mother, and hears Yeshua’s final words:

“Miryam, whom I have called the Migdalah, now
you have seen the all, and have known the truth
of your self; the truth that is I Am. Now you have
become the completion of completions.”

The Gospel ends with these words: “When the Migdalah had told of all that Yeshua had said and done, she fell silent, since it was in that silence that Yeshua had spoken with her and revealed these truths.”

lyrics

Miryam Migdalah
You have known the truth of your self.
Miryam Migdalah
The truth that is the I Am
You are the completion of completions
Hallelujah, Miryam!

Music: Traditional Advent hymn, “Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence.” This is an ancient Greek chant of eucharistic devotion based on Hebrew words from the book of Habakkuk (2:20), "let all the earth keep silence before him." This probably goes back at least to AD 275. The melody is based on a French carol that dates back at least to the 17th century.

Instrumental music from YouTube by Robert McCafferey, performed at St. Joseph Parish, Seattle, March 27, 2020.
